It sold twice. What to do
Sold Elsewhere warns you when the same item sells on two sites. Here's how to handle it with the least damage to your seller rating.
When an item that already sold on one site gets a sale alert from another, the alert shows a red warning, “This item already sold on Poshmark. One order will need cancelling”, and your phone gets a “⚠ Sold twice” notification.
Act the same day
- Decide which order to keep. Usually the first one. Some sellers keep the one with the strictest cancellation rules and cancel the other.
- Cancel the other order in that marketplace, and send the buyer a short, polite message.
- In Sold Elsewhere, click Had to cancel this order? on that alert. It’s recorded in your cancellation meter.
- End any remaining listings for that item with the End buttons.
How each marketplace treats cancellations
| Marketplace | What happens |
|---|---|
| eBay | An “out of stock” cancellation counts as a transaction defect. Too many can cost Top Rated status and search visibility. |
| Poshmark | Sellers who cancel more than 3% of orders in 90 days may face restrictions (policy since Jan 2026). |
| Mercari | Frequent cancellations can limit selling privileges. |
| Depop | Crosslisting is allowed, but you’re responsible for removing sold items promptly. |
Rules change. Check each marketplace’s seller help center for the current policy.
Preventing the next one
- Connect your phone so you see sales instantly.
- Click every End button as soon as an alert arrives, then Done.
- Keep your inventory imported so alerts link to the exact listings.
